These stands are referred to as "medium duty," but I assure you that is from a professional lighting standard, not from the average band with a few par cans on a tripod point of view. One of these stands weigh what my other tripods weighed with the lights on them! This is not a bad thing. because these are also monstrously more sturdy and stable when in use. The adjustability is pretty extensive. The tripod section itself will set at any of three presets. The higher you are going, the wider base you will need. These will get quite wideat floor level, if needed. Depending on what you need for height, you can either pre-raise the upper bar section by pulling its spring-loaded pin before cranking, or just pull the lower section pin and raise through the lower travel. It sounds complicated, but it isn't. One note, though... I was told another customer didn't know to pull these pins and sheared his right off. This brings me to the one negative I can point out: Documentation. Actually, the lack of documentation. Notice I didn't say the lack of "good" documentation. That's because it is worse than that... there is no documentation at all included on the operation of the stand. And there is no documentation available on Global's site (at least none I could find). This is inexcusable for a company and product of this caliber. I know it will be said these are made for professionals who should know how to use them. And I say: BS. If I buy a $100 light, or a $5000 light, it comes with instructions. From a liability standpoint alone this is insane. The first time a truss lands on someone's head and Mr Defense Attorney comes calling, this will change. It should never come to that. Other than this, these are awesome stands at a very reasonable price. They are nicer and stronger than what the average band or DJ is going to have available. Mine are used to support 30 feet of truss and lighting, and do it with no problem. Weight rating for a pair is 440 pounds, by the way. Very. very good item. Twenty cents worth of product manual, and they'd be great!
